Anybody try these discs from Meritline? They are touting them on their forums as the most widely compatible and dependable discs out there.
"BeAll? DVD-R 4.7 GB General V2.0 For Video & Data with 120 min Recordable DVD media, features a reliable and cost effective format for data and video recording, distribution.
LONG DATA LIFESPAN
Used by several government organizations like NASA, SEC, FAA etc due to dependable, no-compromise level of quality. BeALL is the OEM manufacturer of Samsung DVD-R media".
They have a new 1x,2x,4x disc; but since I have the original 103 Superdrive, I would just buy the plain old 2x.
Thanks for any input.

The BeAll discs are made by Samsung and have worked great for me...
Even the 1x discs can burn at 2x in burners like the Panasonic Multidrive, the Toshiba 5002, Sony DRU-500 & others (pretty much anything but a Pioneer). I've done it...
Re: Playback, they've worked in everything from my PS2 to my Pioneer DVD changer, to my Apex and everything else I've thrown them at. They have by far been the most solid discs that I've used.
When Meritline was recently out of them, I tried switching to Accus...After 4 of my first 10 discs burning bad, I switched back to the BeAlls immediately. -
I've had great luck with the BeAll DVD-Rs. I've gone through about 150 disks with only one or two problems. They play on everything I can find.
Lately though, I've been playing with Verbatium disks I got at Best Buy. They sell them in 15 packs for $2/disk. So far so good. They're more expensive, but more convenient than waiting a week for Meritline, plus the BeAlls are often out of stock lately. The Verbatims also have a writable surface and, well, it's probably the best name in storage.Do you know who I am? I am Moe Green. I made my bones while you were going out with cheerleaders. -
Just ordered a sample pack from meritline to do some testing so i can post results here on this forum.
BelAll disks are included in this pack. Ill let you know my results. Im also going to make a post where people can put thier Dvd-r drive, and the media types they have been successful with, since it may help people pick a brand. -
I have been using the BeAll disks exclusively for a few months now with my iMac with SuperDrive.
I've had nothing but great luck with them.
I've burnt a ton of them and everything has played on my Xbox, Pioneer 343 DVD player, RCA and Apex players. -
Thanks everybody for their replys..
Galactica...great idea! I would also include at what speeds people were able to burn at, in relation to their drive, firmware and media type.
Just got a 15pack ($29.99) of verbatim datalife plus at bestbuy.(The BeAll's were already out of stock at Meritline) I was under the impression they would burn at 2x on my Superdrive 103 (firmware 1.90), but alas they don't.
Other than Apple branded 2x certified discs, anybody know what other brands might burn at 2x on the original Superdrive 103 with firmware 1.90??

Maxell's are way nice (2x in a 103). But they only come in a 5-pack jewel case. I like my stuff on spindles.

And while one must always take reports with a grain of salt, there have been several postings on "iffy" quality of the unbranded discs. They are sufficiently less expensive than branded discs, however, so the possible occasional coaster may still make them good value. -
Well I dont have the same dvd drive as you, but they work just fine on mine
so do the even cheaper disks such as the BeAll and DVD PRO disks.
I plan, when my sample pack comes in, to post a post on the results of various disk brands for my drive (since some have mine)
and hope others will do the same when the post is up
that way, people can find others who have the same drive and find the brands they like to use -
i have been using the beall 2x for a couple of months with excellant results. right now meritline will give ya 30% off retail with the code ba30pct. will also give ya free ground shipping or 30% off 2nd day air. with the air shipping, $58.50 for 50 shipped to houston, and i get em 3 days after ordering. good deal.
one thing, i did have to flash my tdk 4040n to get them to work. got the download from the uk site....not on the us site.
could i ask if anyone has run into problems with the law by ordering too many blanks from the same place? i haven't anything, but would hate to hear first hand! -

Lots of people buy dvd's (like myself) and back them up so that they watch the backup's or let kids watch backups so the real dvd's dont get damaged. Dont know how many dvd's ive lost to brothers, friends etc that want to watch a movie i own!
