To play the file on your dvd player, you need to encode it to a mpg first. Then you have to author it as a vcd and then play it on your standalone player. I recomment using tmpgenc to encode and nero to burn. Check out the fine guides on the left side of this site to learn how.

You also have to check and see if your DVD has the ability to play VCD's.

  9. Start by reading the guides to the left. Then read the forum rules about warez, ie downloading movies illegally from sites/per-per servers like... kazaa.

Since you are downloading movies, I'd suggest using Nero, since it will convert it a format that your DVD player will be able to use.

P.S. Look everyone I suggested using Nero!!

  11. Nero is fine for burning, just don't use it to encode.

  12. Since I'm under the impression its warez, I think Nero encoding would be just fine in this case

You seem to be confusing CD's and DVD's which is some pretty basic stuff.

I suggest you do a little reading, like here. You can also look in the "What is" section on the left hand side of this page for some more information. Once you've done a little basic reading, you can then go on to the "Guides" section and see if that makes some sense. You can always come back to the forum if you find yourself stuck.

    Good luck!

And not just for burning! In this case it just might be the best thing.

I think it's a her, first off. And I think everyone thought what I suspect. That is, the newbie is very young.

    She was polite and thankful.

Some just need a gentle nudge in the right direction. Name-calling's uncalled for and beneath most of us.

  18. It appears that the original effort was to convert files from file sharing. No matter the counsel the original intent remains the same.

We are kidding ourselves if we think that by changing the tone of the original reguest we are doing some sort of service.

We should be smarter than this.

edit- unless we choose to put this site at risk.

I agree. Sometimes just a point in the right direction is all that's needed. No sense being hostile.

Yes. Agreed. Totally :c) But.. I also think this site may possibly have been the first time she's been told that what she's doing is illegal. I thought she sounded very young and obviously not used to reading the fine print, warnings and news bulletins we're all familiar with now.

Immediately put me in mind of the 12 year old whose own mother thought is was legal because she'd paid her "subscription".

It's possible and I like to give the benefit of a doubt.

    - if she didn't know before, she knows now.

I don't believe the original post. That's all.

  25. Just sounds like they took the mpeg/avi, they didnt say which, and burned it to a CD-R. It doesnt sound like they have alot of experience with computers, so thats partly why I suggest using Nero to convert and burn. It would provide them with something.

After reading it again I agree. Sorry for the false alarm. But it's compilcity verus conspiracy.

Moderators may ignore the false alarms but always should perhaps also pay attention.

  27. It was never mentioned what type of video was downloaded.

Anyway download TMPGenc (freeware) and convert to VCD format. Then use Nero or something to author to VCD and burn to CD, assuming it fits. Then play in your DVD player (assuming it plays VCD).

  29. Sure it'll take time and reasearch. I've been working on computers for over twenty years, as do alot of the other people here. I still think your best bet would be to try out Nero. The results may not be as good as some other methods, but you will get tangible results now, and be able to learn more advanced techinques as time goes on.

Working on computers for a long time doesn't help me a bit.

The PDP11 and VAX instruction set is not useful.
Expert in CPM ain't real good either.
Detailed knowledge of DOS internals on a 286 is no good.
    Fat32 Filesystem - no
Now I have to learn 2000 wierd MFC classes to write Windws apps
