  1. hi, i'm having serious problems converting ASF to VCD using TMPGEnc. quite often, TMPGEnc will freeze up my entire system (forcing me to reboot my PC) while converting a file. however, it doesn't happen everytime with the same file at the same spot. like it may freeze up while converting a particular ASF file, but after i reboot and try converting the same ASF file, it might work, or it might freeze up at a different %.

i've tried everything mentioned below from the troubleshooting section of one of the TMPGEnc conversion guides but nothing seems to work.

"Try first to change the directshow codec reader priority settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 or to the top of plugin-list and try open the video.
Or try to convert the audio to wav before converting(If you have problems extracting the audio using Virtualdub try use Goldwave or AVI2WAV).
Or try to repair the AVI,DivX or the ASF.
Or try to use avidefreezer to fix your video source."

am i the only one facing this problem? i know not that many people bother with ASF files in the first place, but i hope somebody could help me out.

    thanks in advance!

(sorry for the double post, i just realised that the other thread i replied to didn't have a very specific subject title)

You may want to try EO Video, which is a program that will convert allmost any file to an AVI or MPEG etc, then use TMPGEnc to do the rest.
I have used it to convert RM files and DivX files, but make sure you convert to AVI, not MPEG. (quicker and easier). It says in the Extension table that .asf files are convertable, so give it a go. You'll find a trial version somewhere, but if you are thinking of doing quite a few, then I suggest you get the real thing (full version).

That's my 2c and I hope it pays off for you!!
    you say Y,
    I say Y not?
