  1. Divx to DVDR, i heard you can uncompress the files to make near original avi files to burn onto DVDR?

I couldnt find any information on this in any of the other forums sorry only the reversed cycle. I have just heard about it recently just wondering if anyone out there has done this or is currently doing this and if so whats the quality like?

I know that DVD to DVDR is ofcourse the best method but would like to know more insight into Divx to DVDR as i have a few divx.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Since you've already got the DivX CODEC on your machine, it wouldn't surprise me if you could just load the DivX AVI into something like FlaskMPEG or TMpegEnc and re-encode it as MPEG2.

  3. Just converted a DivX file to MPEG2 file with TMPGEnc just the other day as a matter of fact.

    Not quality-wise, of course.

    Garbage in = garbage out.

This process can be very problematic. The first step is using Gspot to get info on the DIVX file.

    No problems if:

In the U.S. and file is 29.97 fps.

In Europe and file is 25.00 fps

If you live in the U.S.: If the file is and the file is 29.97 (ntsc) and want to convert to play on US TVs. Then you are OK, but if you need to do a framerate conversion, (ie 25.00 fps>29.97fps) you will need to demux the sound to a wav with virtualdub. Then you have to convert that wav file to a sound file of your choosing with besweet. The audio will then need to be stretched slightly using cool edit or goldwave.

The audio can then be remuxed back with the video as it is being encoded to a different frame rate.

If the file is 23.976 you will need to apply 3:2 pulldown flags when encoding the file. This will tell the DVD player to playback the file @ 29.97 fps. Use this setting in TMPGEnc.

If the file has AC3, the sound will need to be demuxed and re-encoded as well.

Note: if you need to do a frame rate conversion from 25.00 fps > 29.97, DON'T convert to 29.97. Convert to 23.976 instead and use 3:2 pulldown.
It is a lot easier to convert 25.00 fps to 23.976 fps that to 29.97 fps for obvious reasons.

That is not true, once compressed you cant get the quality that was lost back.

  7. Thanks for the reply's, It definetly sounds alot of work for more than what it's worth - I was only going to try and do same frame rate PAL 25 fps DIVX to PAL 25 fps DVD. each file was bout 698 mb

I am able to make DVD to DVDR's fine i just thought if it was easy enough i could have saved some time etc with the divx files if they were going to be almost as good quality - But as most said this is definetly not the case so i will just back my movies up again to DVDR

Thanks again - This forum always has good help & advice
