problems avi conversion

im having problems converting avi file to go onto a dvd.
the file im trying to convert is ms mpeg4v3 v.codec name. mpeg layer3 a1 codec name.
ive downloaded avi codec and tmpgenc but i havnt got a clue what else i should download.
can anyone please help?
ive looked for mpeg 4 on the how to guides but cant find it ive tried using one thats mpeg2 but it wouldnt work.
is it me doing something wrong or do i need an mpeg 4 programme and if so where can i find it?

use dvd2svcd to do your avi to dvd conversion (author with an app like movie factory2). Download the divx pack and also xvid. Does this file play on your computer OK. If so, 50/50 you have what you need to do the conversion
