    Hi,

Trying to use ffmpegx to convert an avi file to a divx file so that I can burn it to disk and watch on my dvd player. I have successfully installed ffmpegx and tried to convert the file. It took about 45s before it said complete.

Here is the information from the conversion

Encoding started on Sat Aug 9 20:34:02 MDT 2008
FFmpeg version CVS, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard

    Incorrect frame rate

I have only had my mac about a week, I am coming from an old PC system and have never attempted to burn DVDs before. Please help if you can!

    Thanks,

    Evan.

    1) Your DVD Player is DivX compatible/certified then?
    2) Did you check if the AVI file already is compatible with your player? It would save quite some time if it was...

DivX AVIs usually get burned to CD-R. DivX is not DVD-Video.

Thank you for posting the Process Information log. Most helpful.
As the error message is "Incorrect frame rate", I have to ask: what is entered in the framerate field in the Video tab? If the field was empty, you would get such an error.

25 fps is a PAL framerate, like for european tv sets. You might consider getting an NTSC (23.976 fps or 29.97 fps) copy for future conversions, as NTSC has wider support in North America (Canada), although some brands of DivX players handle both tv standards.

As Case points out with his questions, your post is a bit confusing. What is your actual objective? Is it to be able to play a Divx movie on your (Divx-certified) standalone player? Or is your DVD player an ordinary (non-Divx) one, and you want to convert your movie to a DVD? Here are your choices:

    1) IF your player is a Divx-compatible one (check your manual, or look online for what the manufacturer says; your player will also have the Divx logo on it), then burn the Divx file onto a CD, not a DVD.

    2) IF your player is an ordinary DVD player, you will need to convert the movie into a DVD-compliant one, and then burn a DVD. Or, if the movie is low-res to begin with (or is otherwise something for which the highest quality is unimportant to you), you can also convert into VCD format, which is supported by nearly all modern DVD players. A VCD is burned onto a CD, which can hold 80 minutes at its standards-compliant settings.

Post back with a bit more clarity on what you're really trying to do, and we can offer more specific advice on how to proceed, if you happen to need more beyond what Case has already written.
