  1. Just in case you need to know: System NTSC.

Which one, Huffyuv or DVSoft (basically regular DV compression but you are allowed to change the default 29.97fps to whatever you want) creates a lower data rate? I am tempted to use Huffyuv because of it's lossless compression but I don't know if the data rate is too high (resulting in a file too large for my HD)? DV compression/DVSoft runs at ~3.16Mbyte/sec (with small compression artifacts). Can anyone tell me what data rate Huffyuv runs at?

And can TMPGEnc open AVI's compressed with the Huffyuv codec?

    Thanks for your time...

  2. i capture with huffyuv. i don't know the data rate of it but i can tell you that 4 gigs is 15 minutes worth of capture. at least for me it is. i've tested many others but the quality has been the best for me. i have a 40 gig drive and i only use about 9 gigs so i have plenty of space for capture and conversion.

  3. I regularly encode @ 480x480 w/the Huffyuv codec with a compression ratio of 2.5-2.7:1 and get a bitrate of 1536kbps give or take a few. I get approx. 1hr on 20gig of hard drive space w/the audio added in. TMPGEnc has no trouble wtih this.

Frameserve if you have to, but useing a lossless codec before you encode w/a lossey one is better

  4. dbman, this is odd, I heard that 1 hour of DVSoft is equivalent to 20Gb but you said that 1 hour huffyuv is also equivalent to 20Gb? How can this be??!! DVSoft is ~3.16Mbyte/sec at 704x480! And you said that huffyuv is ~1.6Mbyte/sec at 480x480! This makes no sense!! Either DVSoft should be twice of 20Gb, or huffyuv should be half of 20Gb. Odd... Odd...
