    I have been using this site for information on my DVD Backups for some time now and I want to thank all of you who give so much of your time to help the technicly impared like myself.

    Here is my delima.

    I recently purchased a TEAC DVD burner. up untill now I have been Backing up my movies by using 1) Smart Ripper 2) DVD2AVI and finally 3) TMPGEnc.

    When I found out that my wife was going to buy me a DVD burner for my B-Day I Decided to Continue to spend the time ripping my movies to my Extra 160GB HD but wait untill I got the burner to rewrite them so that I could keep the quality.

    The delima is that when I used my nero program Version 5.5.10. I copied all of the VOB files to the proper directory and burned the DVD. The DVD finished corectly but it won't play in my home DVD player - APEX AD-1500 And it won't play in my DVD player in my van.

    I think I am missing someting. I looked at the newbies section and was able to find alot of good information but not what I am looking for.

    My thought is, do I still use the DVD2AVI then when I use the TMPGEnc just select the DVD option instead of the SVCD option. But then what about the menus.

    again I appologise for being technically impared.

  2. Hmm hope i dont double post, it died.

    Anyways your might need to use IFOEdit to make a new .IFO, as you need that in addition to VOBs
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
    VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author

  3. Use the DVD Video option of Nero. Move your VOB, IFO, BUP files to the VIDEO_TS folder and burn. Be sure your files do not exceed the 4.38GB size limitation of a single DVD. If your input files exceed this total you must use some other program to reduce the size.

    what jccruit said!

    Don't use the wizard!!! After closing the wizard, choose DVD>then DVD video. Keep everything at default. Drag all of your files, vobs, ifo, etc, to the VIDEO_TS folder on the left side. Then burn.

    Pleas let us know if it worked. You may have compatibilty issues, but I don't think so.

  5. Possible fixes:
    1.Add an AUDIO_TS(empty) folder before burning.
    2.Bad media,try another disc or another brand.
    3.Wrong DVD format try + instead of - or vice-versa.
    4.Use IFOEDIT to Get VTS sectors before burning.
    5.If possible keep VIDEO_TS folder under 4GB.

    The three tools you specify as using are correct and used in the correct order. However, you don't mention how you have generated the VOB files.

    Tmpgenc encoder makes mpeg files. These have to be authoried before put on CD.

    Now, if you are also using Tmpgenc DVD Author, then it explains how you reached the VOB stage. If that is so, then make sure you record a DVD with the VOB, IFO and BUP files ALL inside the VIDEO_TS folder.

    Also, several versions (older) of Nero were known to be unable to record a proper DVD Video. Make sure you download the latest 5.5.10.4x version and use this. Also make sure you select a DVD Video template in Nero.
    The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

    Thank you for your answers, I have downloaded IFOEDIT and was able to create the support files for the VOB's and then when I created the the DVD using NERO it worked. The only problem is I don't have menu's.

    what program can I use to make menus?

    Also I looked at the Glossery for this site and I don't see the Glossery terms for the files with extensions .BUP or .IFO. Does anyone know where I can get information to read that will tell me what theses files contain and how they interact with a DVD.

    Thanks again

  8. BUP=BackUP of IFO file
    IFO=InFOrmation;used by a DVD player to navigate.

  9. For authoring, I like DVD-Lab because it will work with the VOB files directly.

    Another option might be TMPGEN DVD Author, it works with VOB files as well.
