The best you could do with a machine of that vintage is run "emulators"
The legality of which is questionable.
Do a google search for shareware type kids games OR try the online games at http://www.nick.com
You bought a 486 ?? I thought they were free?!

i did a search on google but what i came up with was not freeware. it was hard to imagine that old pc games like that, and they still wanted like $15,go figure. -
Do a websearch for abandonware. Alot of companies will remove the copyright on their old software that is no longer marketable. There are suprisingly some great old games that are free now. Like Betrayal at Krondor is really a very good RPG by Sierra and its now totally free. There are lots of sites that host abandonware.

i would reccomend the following:
Doom 1 & 2 (but may be a little violent)
Worms 1 & 2
Prince Of Persia
Nibbles (v basic game like Nokias Snake but with different levels)
Chomp/Pacman
Duke Nukem (another shoot em up but less gory)1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!
2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website -
Alone in the dark 1, 2 and 3. (not 4)....not free though...

I think LucasArts has released some of their old games as freeware - Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max: Freelance Police and others.

out now:
Various Artists "Six Doors"
Unicorn "Playing With Light" -
I get games and educational software for my kids at the local library. It is mostly older stuff that runs fine on their 166 Mhz pent. most of the specs say 486 win 3.1 or better.
They really have some decent educational games (reader rabbit, anything by scholastic) teach basic computer skills and grammer/reading/counting....
The best part is they are free to rent, and I get to keep them for 3 weeks, and can renew that for another 3 weeks online. By that time they are tired of the game and I just return and pick them up a new one.

thanks all,i have managed to get about 30 of them but not sure if they will all run on it or not. i have not set the pc up yet so time will tell
i will definatly give the library a try -
You actually paid money for a 486???? 8MB of Ram isn't enough, even for win 95
You could try Doom...."Terminated!" :firing: -
Do a search for "Jill of the Jungle" - runs on a 386 and there were three releases! Dos / with/without soundcard - and even thats good on the PC Speaker !
