Can someone tell me how to load a dvd- compliant mpg or m2v file into virtual dub., the reason being I want to add a vobsub or ssa subtitle onto it. Or is there another way to do it? Help please.

That is exactly what happens when you try to load an MPEG-2 file into the old Virtual Dub. Did you completely uninstall the old version before adding the mod version?
Hello. -
Uninstalled? There is no installation involved, so how to unistalled.I just extract the program to a folder and run. And it works all the time or must I cleaned the registry of all reference to the so-called old virtualdub. My version is 1.54. I don't know whether virtualdub or mod can handled mpeg2 or m2v. I hope it could. Is there another way to load it in, maybe thru' avisynth . I need it to add subtitle

You don't really need to remove one version of VirtualDUB to use the other.
I have both installed in two separate directories and use the one I need depending on the in-file.The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
Virtual Dub mod can handle MPEG-2. That is the "mod". I do not know about .m2v files, but it has no problems with MPEG-2 files.
Hello. -
you could use avisynth.i dont think you can open more then one vob without it,but i would just use gordian knot.
there is an option to add vobsub subtitles.
