Hello. I have a movie sized 640x360. It's in widescreen because it looks wide. But, the top and bottom black bars have been clipped out. So what settings for Video Arrange Method in TMPGEnc should I select to maintain the widescreen? And what size should I convert to? I want to make an SVCD.

Your video has a 16:9 aspect ratio. If your target is a TV then try the following settings (with regard to TV overscan):

Use in TMPGENC the video arrange method "center customize",
then use for the pixel values:

    PAL: 448 x 400
    NTSC: 448 x 336

    This should work...

  3. SVCDs only support a DAR of 4:3, you can make an xSVCD that's anamorphic but don't expect to work on most standalones.

    For TMPGenc:

    Video Source type: Progressive
    Source aspect ratio: 1:1 (VGA)
Video arrange method: Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)

This will center the video using the full horizontal resoltion and letterbox as necessary to maintain the source aspect ratio.

ALL PC video (that is correctly encoded) has a DAR of 1:1, so for Divx/xvis sources always choose 1:1 (VGA).

What's weird is when I converted using Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio) and viewed it on the TV, the widescreen video is just too narrow and makes it hard to watch. I'm trying Elmark's method right now. How did you get 448x336? Will that cut out anything from the sides?

    Page 1 --> svcd
Page 2 --> set aspect ratio (for source) to 16:9 display
page 3 --> click 'other settings'
On video tab click 'Aspect ratio' and unlock - set to 16:9
On adavanced tab - video arange method' 'FullScreen (keep aspect ratio)'
    Done!

this will give you a proper 16:9 output - every player I've tried has play'd this format
gives proper widescreen when viewed on widescreen tv
gives proper widescreen when viewed on 4:3 tv with dvd box set to 'normal+letterbox'

Might not be standard but this DOES work, I even do this when converting to VCD.

WMP won't display it correctly, Power DVD will + even winamp displays it corectly (16:9)
