  3. You could try an external unit like Sima Copymaster or ProVision+, they come for about $35 and up.

  4. I found a patcher called DisableATIMacrovisionDetection which included source code for those leary of binaries. What it does is change the behavior of the ATI dll responsible for checking if the macrovision bit is set. The result is that you are able to capture MacroVision protected content. The only caveat is that Macrovision also changes the brightness of the source every few seconds. This can be a bit annoying. I don't know if there are filters available to remove this.

I've successfully patched the latest drivers (8.5 I think) for my ATI 8500DV.

This is what you need. It gets rid of the macrovision. Just run it between the source and the destination. Uses s-video and video connection.

  6. Does that device REALLY work well?

I bought something for like $35 that works, but it causes some banded lines in the video at times. I still use it, and I prefer the results on DVD better than using tapes, BUT it is annoying anyway. Just not as annoying as 15minutes of comercails at the beginning of a tape and all the rewinding or seachig for certian parts all the time!

That patche should take out the problem where the video displays a still image instead of the video. But I still had the bright dim problem at times.

I even had to install the patch to watch SNOW WHITE DVD on a pc with a 7500 radeon video card. NOT a capture card, just video card!
Got the still image protection when playing the disk in a DVD pc drive.

  9. I had a few tapes that were macrovision protected. I used my old ADS Instant DVD 1.1 as a go-between. It removed the the macrovision protection and the resulting capture was perfect.

I had to use composite video though. I don't know why the S-Video wouldn't work, but at least I have my tapes done.

BTW, I am using an ATI AIW 8500DV for capture with MMC 8.6.
