  1. Hi all,

I'm newbie at DVD, maybe there are some steps i did wrong but my DVDs don't work correctly on my stand-alone DVD player.

    That's what happens:

I use TMPEnc DVD Authoring to creat menu, chapters and convert files from .DAT format to .VOB format then i burn on a DVD-R (Princo)

When i play it on my stand-alone player, i can have images but NO SOUND, it seems that the VOB files are not converted correctly. But when i play it on my computer with PowerDVD as a normal DVD-Video, it works perfectly, i have sound and images.

Could you guys tell me where did i do wrong or what program i should use instead of TMPEnc DVD Authoring

    Thanks alot

  2. I'm going to guess here.

I dont think it's the authoring program's fault. What are you using to encode the video into a DVD ready format?

  3. I don't know what a .dat file is but TMPgenc DVD Author is a good program and never had a problem for me yet. I use mpeg2 files though, not .dat.

My guess is maybe your .dat files have a sound file of some type that your player does not reconize and that's why you have no sound on the player but you do on the pc.

TMPgenc DVD Author does not encode files, you need already DVD compliant files to make a DVD with it.
Maybe if you changed your .dat files to mpeg2 files with another program then they would work? Just geussing.

SInce I don't know anything about .dat I can't offer much advise on programs, but if you look in the guides and tools sections for your type files you might find something that can help.

If not I am sure soon someone will come along with the answer.

  4. Do the .dat files play before they are converted with tmpgenc dvd authour ?. I was not aware that these can be imported (might be, I am at work so cannot check).

What I would do is take your .dat files through into isobuster right click on them and select filter only mf2 frames. Select the file name as whatever.mpg. When you have all your mpeg files check that they have sound etc... and then go through the normal tmpgenc dvd author process. Before you burn you can check the vobs by playing them in something like power dvd. Now burn using whatever (I use nero 6). If when you play them on your standalone you have no sound you will know it must be something wrong with

    1. Your dvd player
    2. Your media
    3. Problem with burning

Try this and if you have problems post back. Do not be discouraged from using tmpgenc dvd author I think it is an excellent easy to use program.

Possible problem : audio is 44.1 kHz - DVD spec requires 48 kHz

  6. TMPEnc DVD Authoring is a good program since you use to author new DVD from already exists .VOB files but about from .DAT files, it seems to be not really performent (by the way .DAT are files extension in MPEGAV folder of each VCD). I did extract them through IsoBuster with the filter only mf2 frames but still same problem. Be noticed that it plays perfectly on my computer but on my stand-alone DVD player, i only have images, no sound

By the way, did someone success converting VCD to DVD? If yes please tell me how to do that and what programs i should use

    Thanks alot

  7. Well, like I said I don't know about .dose .der .dat files you .got

I think DVD author only works on mpeg2 files and DVD files already in .VOB form. .Dat is neither!

*.dat what is DAT.....DAT sounds like dat is (s)VCD files
Look for tools or guides to the left for converting svcds to anything else, like .avi or mpeg files. Tmpgenc is a good encoder, but is not the same as Tmpgenc DVD Author, 2 different programs that do different things.

.dat is your problem I think and dat is dat!

Try using SVCD2DVDMPG http://www.svcd2dvd.com/to convert the dat files after you extract mpg's with isobuster and before authoring.

Actually you can burn dvdr's with TMPGEnc DVD Author using mpg1 (vcd) files, i have season 2 of Dark Angel on dvd (import) i was transfering them to vcd so i already had the mpg's on my HD, loaded them fine into TMPGEnc DVD Author , burned 10 - 45min. episodes with ac3 audio & standard vcd audio, onto one dvd+r, did'nt look much better than a vcd but they had the .mpg extension, never tried with a .DAT ext.
people on here that don't know what a .DAT is
    now thats scary 8)

A dat file is not a pure mpeg1 file
Run your .dat files through vcdgear (click Fix mpeg errors + Remove CD-i Mpeg Bumper) and disable mpeg file splitting in options to get you mpeg1 file
TMPGEnc DVD Author will then convert the audio for u
    works 4 me.

  11. Oh doose dat files

I forgot what they were, but now I remember!!

When I first tried to make VCDs I was really getting frustrated and ticked because all the guides and info I could find gave details on everything except how to create .dat files or what they were, or where they came from!

Then either I found somthing or posted like my first question here and got the answer!

Drop a mpeg1 into nero vcd and nero creates them on the fly

Duhh on me, ya doos .dat files, .duh
