I make all my burnings with Nero 5.5.10.28
Usually the lead in phase needs about a minute to be completed, and the dvd is burned ok. But sometimes this phase continues for more than 2 minutes and the whole process is crashed. What's the problem ?

I would ask the same question.

It used to crash on me also, but using the latest version 5.5.10.42 and the latest f/w for the drive helps.

I have noticed that certain brands of DRD-R (especially these) cause this problem. Sentinel is one brand and Intenso is another I had problems with.

I still am the "proud" owner of a Sentinel DVD-R that will fail during the Lead-In phase and abort, leaving the disk empty.

Since then, I stick with TDK disks (not always easy as they are the first to dissapear from the stores) and I still notice the same strange thing:

Some disks will do Leadin for 20~30 seconds or so and then start recording while others will go as long as 3 minutes before the track begins to record. (All TDK disks out of the same box). But, thankfully, recording and verifying never fails.

Also, I notice another strange thing lately. Once verification completes and the disk is ejected, the eject button on the drive will not respond. I need to press Eject in the Nero menu, which will cause the drive light to go on and off, after which the eject button on the drive starts working again...

Just a hint: I guess that the first DVD that gets recorded after a reboot will not suffer from this behaviour. Try rebooting, start Nero and try to record. (not a solution but helps identify the cause and if recording is succesful, reduces anger!!!)
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
