  1. I'm looking for a notebook to do the following things:
    1. Capture video from DV camcorder with Pinnacle Studio
    2. Cut and join video clips
    3. Encode using Tmpgenc to VCD, SVCD and DVD

Which processor is the best and fastest to do the job? Same RAM and HDD spec.
    1. Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
    2. Intel Pentium 4-M 2.2 GHz
    3. AMD Athlon XP-M 2.2 GHz
    4. Intel Centrino 1.3 Ghz

Is notebook harddisk with 4200rpm sufficient?
I plan to use external USB 2.0 harddisck casing to store capture video directly? Will you have drop frame problem?

  2. Your hard drive is going to have to be 7200 or else you wont be able to capture full quality Mpeg2. I had a notebook with a 5400 and it did alright on the lowest quality setting, but anything else killed it.

Also for the chip I would go with the P4 2.4, I have one with the 800FSB and HT and its really really nice.

But personally I got rid of my notebook because its just not worth it, stuff that you will want and need to capture and use for video editing is so much more exspensive than it is for a Desk top.

    But good luck anyways

  3. I just bought a Compaq 2170us notebook ($750) and an add on Cardbus PC Firewire card ($20) and it captures DV video quite well and renders almost as fast as my P4 2.4 desktop machine.
I use Vegas for capture and rendering to MPG-2, and burn using a 1st generation Firewire DVD burner.
I'm impressed with how prices have dropped and capability's have gone up with notebook's.
