I've heard about these 99min CD-Rs on the forums, and I've become interested in knowing where I could buy some. I live in the USA, Chicago area, and was wondering if there are any stores that sell them around me. Could someone please list some stores where they could be found? I need them ASAP, so I would prefer not to order them online (and wait for shipping).

Go to pricewatch.com and search under media. There are also 90 min cd's and they are compatable with more of the older DVD players. ............ harrymj3

Do you know of any not-online stores, that I could drive to and get the CDs today?
I've heard compUSA has them, but I've looked online, and didn't find them listed. If compUSA did have them, that'd be great cause I'm not to far from one. -
CompUSA used to sell them, but I don't think they do any more. They were in a 10pack house brand box with cases (FMI). It wasn't labled very well, so search this forum archive. People have posted part numbers.
Unfortunately, I'm fairly sure they no longer stock them.
Probably because they are crap. They are way out of spec and no major manufacturer wants the returns, so there is no such thing as a quality 99min blank. I personally think they are a waste of time (from experience).
Oh, you can burn them, and they may even play fine for a while, but give em time. The'll fail.
In summary, I doubt very highly any (non online) store sells them. In stead:
- Squish it to 80 min quality cdr (may even overburn a few minutes)
- Cut the data/video
- get a dvd burner -
I must say... your post isn't very encouraging.
Good info to know though. I'll definately look into this more before I run out and get some.
Thanks -

I'll definately check out Pricewatch and allmediaoutlet for them.
Before I take a ride over to compUSA (and maybe get lucky)...
When's the last time anyone has seen them instock at a compUSA? -
It's been about a year at the CompUSA near my house and about 6 mo. since their website has listed them.

Looks like I'll have to get it online then. One more question: I have a generic CD-burner that came with my computer (it only burns at 4X
), does anyone think this will work with the 90-99 minute CDs? I'm pretty sure there isn't a brand anywhere on it, so its tough to check it on compatibility lists.
Thanks for all the replies! -
Hey MovieGeek:
Maybe your good. What drive do you use ? Do you burn out to 99 min? What speed? It might help mojo. I have an LG, and I usually went for 98 min. I burnt at 1x because I used a demo of cdrwin and faster didn't seem to work. The Compusa ones I used are labled 16x.
Hey Mojo:
Sorry for the negativity. I really saw problems when I took my old svcds and tried to copy them (for dvds, etc.). Most discs played, but I got freezing at the end after a while a good percent. If they got hot (sat in the player), I also had problems.
I'd be happy to mail you a couple. PM me with an address and I'll pop them in the post.
As far as them working on an old 4x drive. I gotta say no. -

I love 99min cdr I use infinit brand and have no problems burning... however nero detects them but says they are 98mins and for safety and compatibility reasons I now only burn 950mb when doing svcd as my player used to stutter a little at the end, not every disc but occasionally. As for data backup they are absolutely fantastic burned at 32x or higher. I would say that even if you cant burn the full 99min you will be able to use them as 80min cdr so you wont lose much.

I use 99 minute/850MB Cds from a company called BIT Video. Taiwanese I think. I've burned several with good results. Nero will only burn them with the overburn function, for some reason. It prompts that the file is too large(IF over 800MB) for the cd, otherwise. But I've burned up to about 920MB of video, with no problems.
