I try to capture to mpeg2 using the new MC Mpeg Encoder 1.4. capture tool and it drops a very high amount of frames. Sometimes it crashes 5 to 10 seconds into the capture. I can capture directly to mpeg2 with other programs with no problems.
Any idea? Help will be highly appreciated.

  2. Using MC 1.4 and Canopus ADVC-100 I captured 30 mins of video direct to Mpeg2 with no frame drops. Awesome !!! You just setup the DVD bitrate you want, and in real time, it creates a DVD compliant Mpeg2 file on your HD, ready for authoring and burning. It probably would've captured a lot longer, but after 30 minutes I couldn't wait any longer to see the result....Which was a very acceptable Mpeg2 file

what firewire card are you using ? i had no problems with it all all --

your system seems like it should be fine - unless you have a lot of stuff running in the background ...

what settings are you using ?

Thanks for your prompt replies. I forgot to mention that I'm capturing thru an analog card, a cheap one with the btwmd drivers. If I enable preview it will drop a lot of frames. If disabled, most of the time it will begin dropping 15 to 20 seconds into the capture. Only once have I been able to capture about 15 minutes of mpeg2, dvd quality, with no dropped frames.

  5. It craps out on me as soon as I press the "Start Capture" button. I get a capwrapper "unable to start capture" error. Haven't recieved a response from MainConcept yet. I hope they get this working 100%, though, because I'd LOVE to do captures direct with the encoder. :P

What I saw in my only 15 minutes capture is pretty good. A very clean picture. I hope we can solve the problems so we can really test this version.

Turn off the "preview during capture" option, then it will work, and you won't get that error. To access this, Tools -> Capture -> Setup -> Capture

    Have fun

Thanks. I'll try that when I get home from work today.

    I too tried a MPEG2 capture through a ATI 8500
    Dropped millions of frames.
I am running this thing slow 1.2 GHz to cut down on heat
but the ATI MPEG2 capture works ok.

I'll crank it up to 2.0 GHz and try again.

If you have a card which works with btwincap drivers-Ulead DVDMF will give you excellent captures-set quality at max with 8000kbps VBR for both capturing and encoding.
Set 16: 9 aspect ratio in mpeg advanced setting for capture with a wide screen movie(letterboxed heavily at top ) to get even better quality. MF will encode it correctly to DVD.

  11. Hi,
I just ran a test with my DV camcorder through firewire to capture directly in mpeg format. First I did not enable the buffering option for DV and MPEG and I got over 50% dropped frame. Then I enabled the buffering option and no dropped frame but after finish capturing, for each minute of capture, it took 30 sec to process. I have a P4 1.6G with 512M DDR ram. Can anybody confirm what speed of cpu is repuired for real time MPEG capturing. I also noticed that in MPEG capturing there is nither an option for 2 pass encoding nor any audio option. Thanks
