  1. I am just confused enough. I have a Pioneer 104 that will burn at 2x.
Will it burn 4x media, only at the 2x speed, or will I just get coasters ?
I called the Memorex help desk, and they said "Maybe, maybe not, give it a try."

  2. It will most likely only let you burn 4x media at 1x. You can change the firmware to a 2x for all version if you want, but make sure you research the subject first. I am running 1.40 2x for all and have been happy. I can decide whether the media is safe to burn at 2x or not.

    !!! WARNING !!!!!
By no means even put a new highspeed (4x) DVD-R or DVD-RW into your Pioneer A03(103) or A04(104) or you will destroy the drive !!!!!

You will first need to update your firmware before should even touch your drive with a 4x-medium.

As you can read from the information supplied by Pioneer after the update of your firmware your Pioneer A03(103) or A04(104) now can record at 2x-speed on 4x-DVD-R-Media. The information is not clear about whether you are able to record the new high-speed DVD-RW also at 2x-speed.
