I've got an svcd-compliant mpeg which avicodec reckons it's 480*576 (16:9), but when using MovieFactory2 to make a dvd with with a menu and chapters etc, it made a 4:3 letterbox - help please?

So what's the question? SVCD is 4:3 only. If the original is 16:9, you make it with black bars on top and bottem to keep the aspect ratio correct. Your other option is to chop off the sides.
You are dealing with a PAL resolution MPEG, make sure it's 25 fps or it won't play correctly anywhere. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
