  1. I have 16 episodes of the original Transformer cartoons from the 80's. They are in Divx format at about 180 megs a episode. What would be the proper path to take to get these on a dvd disk. It would be nice to have them all on one disk, but 2 would be fine.

Should I get a program to convert divx to mpeg2, then another to create the menus and author the dvd? Or should I use a all in one program like TMPGenc dvdauthor with divx?

The reason I'm asking is the first attempt I used tmpgenc dvdauthor. I imported the clips and let it do everything and I only got 4 episodes on a 4.7 disk. My next attempt, I used convertxtoDVD to convert all 16 files to mpeg 2. Convertx made 500meg files from the clips. I then used tmpgenc dvdauthor16 to author the dvd. I got 8 episodes on this disk.

Any suggestions? Am I headed in the right direction?

The proper way is to get a DivX DVD Player or find the original Transformers on a DVD release.

I would probably convert with a separate encoder like hc encoder where you can set the bitrate to get the output size you want and also tweak encode settings and then use TDA. But it all depends how much time you are willing to spend, if you are happy with convertxtodvd and tda3 then it's enough for you.

And can't you set the video bitrate in tda 3? So you could squeeze in more episodes and still use the tmpgenc converter.

  4. Baldrick, is there a program demo I can download that will leave the divx files as is. TMPGenc 3 wants to convert to mpeg2. Whats the best way to create a pure divx disk?

TMpgenc DVD AUthor 3 should be able to create a divx disc with menus. Or else if you don't want menus(DivX menus can only be played by divx ultra dvd players) you just burn the divx avi files on a dvd.
