Click the Start/End button. You can remove
some of the beginning and end of the movie.

  5. I just removed the 6 channel audio. There are two audio tracks one is 2 channel and one is 6 channel. I suppose I might regret it someday when I get a home theatre system.

You will regret it even before that if the 2 chan audio is
    the directors comments.

The change in audio isn't saving you much. 5.1 is worth the trouble.

I did a Fellowship backup by cheating. I went with the 'non-standard' resolution of 480x480 instead of 720x480. I can't tell the difference on my 25" TV. However, My bitrate was quite a bit higher for a lower res movie (hence it's artifact free). The full sized encoding had artifacts out the ying-yang. Especially the Balrog scene (all those flames are an encoders nightmare). I did chop out the trailing credits and some of the intro crap.

  8. Nothing wrong with re-encoding to a lower resolution (in fact it's a good idea when the bitrates get really low) but I would stick to/recommend the DVD std resolutions: 720x480, 352x480 or 352x240. 480x480 is the std SVCD resolution but it's not supported by nor will will play on all standalones.

  9. yes you can fit 3 even up to 6 hour's on a DVD-R will not look good but you can if dvdshrink does not hit the target size just dvdshrink again and it will.
