  1. Hello.

recently i've backed up several dvd's into a single dvd+rw, (each
    dvd into a seperate dvd+rw ofcourse... ;P).

while playing them on my pioneer dv-525... it plays kewl
for some minutes... and then without notice, the sound gets
"shutterd"... the video continues flawlessly and the sound sounds
    like its "broken"...

if i turn off and on my dvd player again... the same segment
which once was shutterd is now playing nicely... (ie: its not
the dvdr itself i assume). some times it returns on other segments
    and sometimes not.

i played 1 movie with no interuption at all... and on the next
movie it just shutterd 3 mins in the movie... after restarting the
player it happend 20 mins inside the film, on the 3rd attempt
    it didnt happen.

it happends on some dvd's and sometimes not... both with AC3
    or DTS soundtracks...

im using lg gsa-4040b dvdr, p4 2.4, 512ddr and winxp pro.
i tried using nero 6.0.0.15, clone dvd, dvdit and ripped the dvd's
using dvddcrypter. the media was a memorex dvd+rw (x2.4).

    any suggestions?
    thanks.

That's very interesting. I also have a similar problem but unlike you I only have the problem with home movie DVD's that I create myself from miniDV captures. But it is exactly as you state. At random intervals in the movie usually first three minutes or last quarter of the movie my audio also starts stuttering even though video is perfect. If I pause the DVD for a few seconds and then play again it will disappear (sometimes for a while, sometimes till the end). However, unlike you I do not get the problem with commercial DVD backups. I have put it down to the player but I am sure there are ways around it.

For me it happens on cheap media aswell as expensive media ie. pioneer so I think its a player issue with certain audio. I am using DVD-R and DVD-RW though. I am yet to overcome it though. Have you tried using a DVD+R (as opposed to a DVD+RW) or DVD-R and see if your player ahs same problems.

    Good luck.

    Hazza.

  3. Heya.

well... i did not try either dvd-r or dvd+r since im experimenting
with various record methods... its uesless to make a coaster each
time i get a bad burn (ie: it shutters)...

im using highly rated memorex media +rw, so i assume its not it.
i tried tweaking the dvd player settings... seems not to have helped...

1 thing i did notice is, if you leave it to play a little shutterd audio,
the amp will break contanct with dvd, (you see a little digital led
blinking - on my amp nad t760), then it "connects" again with the dvd
and the sound is regualr. this happens only sometimes... not always...
so i assume its the player and not the burn...

as long as the disc is played on a player... i assume the burn is ok no?
    or am i mistaken?

since it comes back on various spots on the dvd, and not the same spot,
plus since u pause and then play sometimes it continues regularly and
sometimes not... i stronly assume this is the player... BUT i did not see
any of thoose issue on a pressed original dvd...

still it might be a player issue on dvd/r/rw medias in general...

    any help?

Interestingly, I just had a similar problem, and also with the Pioneer DV-525. Played a homebrew movie and about 3/4 way into it started stuttering. I checked the VOB files on the computer, played fine. Both a DVD-R burned with Nero 5.5 and a DVD+R burned with Nero 6 had the same problem, also burned a DVD+RW with Nero 6, same problem. Then took the discs to a cheap Allegro DVD/VHS combo, PLAYED JUST FINE! Looks like the Pioneer may be the source of, at least my, problem.
