Does anyone know if there is any way to get a test DVD in both these formats to test out various DVD stand alone players? I want to convert video to DVD to play on stand alone player. What is the better format? Please, anyone with DVD burning experience feel free to comment.

Why not check out the list of DVD players on this site?
My experience with DVD-RW is that MOST players don't seem to play them. I've taken a Pioneer brand Disc into Best Buy and tried it on all their DVD players. Most woulden't play them.
However, others have reported better results.
One thing to keep in mind, use major brand discs. A couple of generic discs I bought woulden't play on ANY players. -
ive had no problems at all with dvd-rw they seem to play on every player ive tried (uk)it seems to be the most uniform media ive tried
