Player Returns to Factory Settings By Itself

I have a Apex AD-3201 DVD player since May 2002, but, I have not used it to play DVD for while.

This this week when I rented 3.

Normally, because I only have one set of RCA jacks, I route the DVD via the VCR.

Since most DVD's have Anti-copy safeguards I used the 8-4-2-1 hack to turn it off.

It has worked in the past, but, this time it did not

First I was thinking that a new version of Anti-copy safeguards has been invented, however, when I went to the "secret menu" I found that the safeguards and the Region Hack (I set it to 9) returned to its factory setting.

What happen

Does this DVD defult back to its factory setting?

If so, then how long the the hack last until it has to be done again

And can it be stoped
