Is their anyway to improve my ripping speed using dvd decrypter and pioneer dvd-r 105. Currently when I rip a move in file mode to my hard drive it bounces around from .8x to 2.1 times speed. Is this normal? any way to speed it up?
Thanks!

You can flash your firmware with a hacked firmware available here http://forum.firmware-flash.com/viewtopic.php?t=12883&sid=68e1c0110d601f83745f65b4cdf4e5f5 and unlimit your ripping speeds.
But with stock firmware your speeds now are normal. -
Hacked firmware will unlock the 2x read speed limit but will also shorten the life of your precious laser. Better to rip with a cheap dvd-rom.

I agree with nutstoyou. You can get a Lite-On 163D (which is one of the fastest for ripping) for around $32 on pricewatch.com and save wear and tear on your burner.
