  1. I just bought today a pack of 25 DVDs for $30 but I don't know who the manufacturer is. It was at my local PC Club. Is there anyway to find out how good they are or who the manufacturer is using those little serial numbers imprinted in the inner part of the disc? I just hope I didn't get ripped off.

  2. Download a freeware call ADVDINFO.exe. This little program tells you who makes the media.

  5. I tried it but it gives me some weird errors about my ASPI. I already tried installing the Adaptec ASPI but I still get the same error message. What can I do?

  6. DVDInfoPRO doesn't need ASPI if the OS is WinXP.

What did you do exactly after extracting the files?

If these discs have 4X mark and orange coating on the label side, then they are made by Ritek (media ID: RITEKG04) with very good quality. They are on sale until 10/15 yet very few people know about this, thanks to PC Club's anonymity.

Nero CD Speed could also check the manufacturer ID although not as detailed as DVDInfo Pro:

Install the program and click "Disc Info" under the "Extra" menu.

Apparently, they're so anoymous, even PC CLUB doesn't know they have them!

The PC CLUB media page shows generic silver 4x media. I ran there in a hurry when you said it was Ritek orange 4x media. But I don't see it written there anywhere, and I want things in writing.

  10. Just try it, if it sucks you're only out $30. Ive heard worse stories of people buying a 100 pack, THAT hurts.

staples is selling optimum dvd-r and dvd+r on sale, do not buy them, i bought sixty a while back and after about 3.2 gigs, everyone of them were bad, i got in touch with staples about them, and they said they would give me credit. that was about 3 months ago, when i got a hold of staples again, they didnt know anything about the credit, not only is the media bad, staples are a bunch of liars

  12. Thanks a lot. They are the orange ones. So I imagine they are the Riteks because I've burned 6 already and I've had no problems at all. Unfortunately when I did try to check the manufacturer ID using ADVDINFO and DVDInfo Pro and I just got a bunch of hexadecimal numbers but I couldn't decipher them to the maufactuerer. I'm going to have go buy some more before the sale ends. By the way I used to work at Staples and I'm sorry to hear what happened cuz I remember that we would never try to give people the run around but that was like two years ago so I can't really say anything now.
