  1. Hi board,

Hope you're all well. I have been trying to convert some of the newer files iv found online which are encoded in xvid mpeg4 to VCD complaint MPEG 1. I have tried TMPGenc which doesnt like the video stream of it, and iv also tried an application by a firm called "Zealot" which doesnt like it either.

I have searched through the forums but havn't really found a suitable solution. Can anyone help please?

    Thanks,

    stokefan

open the file in gspot to see what codec is needed and whether you have it installed. raise the priority of the direct show filter in the environmental settings on tmpgenc to 2 or 3. if that doesn't work, post the audio and video info from gspot here for further help.
I said I'll be done in a minute. I meant a Microsoft minute.

  3. Hi I adjusted the priority to +2 (all the others are 0) of the DirectShow Filter in TMPGenc, and I got a movie to encode!!

I wonder if anyone could explain to me the reason behind this please?

The reason I ask is because I tried to convert another xvid movie in the same way, but tmpgenc crashed while converting? Any thoughts?

  4. I went into the Environmental settings and could not find Direct show Filter to raise the settings. I have used gspot to check out the codec that was needed and it says ffdshow MPEG 4 Video Decoder. I was told to download the latest ffdshow alpha codex which I did. TMPGEnc and Divx (with the 5.0.5 codex) do not work, but ironically my Windows Media Player does work.

    Please help me

  5. When you go to the environmental section click on the vfapi plugin tab. You'll see it there.

  6. Thanks Laddydaddy, I did what you said and it works. FINALLY!

The only bad news is that the XVID is 1 hour and 31 minutes long and to convert it to VCD would take more than 9 hours .

One more thing I would like to add is that, I love this web site and without it I would be lost.

    Many thanks
