Hello all,
I mistakenly bought a 25 pack of Ritek 1x media instead of 4x (yes, yes... I know - you get what you pay for) and am obviously stuck with them.
My question is: Can these discs be burned at 2x? If so, what is the risk (if any) of doing so? I'm using Nero 6 and an Optorite burner with the Ritek DVD01X0034 media from supermediastore.com.
Thanks in advance all!
Tim

The risk ? $1.17 a disc + shipping.
Assuming your firmware allows you to burn at 2x, many people are very happy burning Ritek G3s at 2x.
I have a pioneer 104. I found if I burned at 2x, sometimes a full disc (end of movie) had problems. Because I got tired of testing/guesing, I just burnt them at 1x.

What's the cost of burning the whole stack at 1x?
.5 hour xtra burn time x 25 disc x a wage of $8 per hour = $100
I'd throw them out! It would be cheaper to buy 25 G04s !

Wow ... you pay yourself $8/hr for COMPUTER time to burn DVDs? I have about 35 or 40 Accu 1x's left (w/Sony DRU-500a Firmware 2.0 f). I may be cheap but that's $40. I'll start a burn before I go to bed, or leave for work, or when I going to do <something else>. The burn is finished when I get back.Originally Posted by ImaWeTodd

Bed ... Work ... Mow the lawn ... these leave little time for very few burns a day! Oh how I long for the day when I can burn a disc in 7 minutes at 8x .... I can almost smell it!

I have a lot more things in my life to do than burning DVD-Rs. I have a 2 1/2 year old that occupies most of what used to be my free time. I may do four to five burns a WEEK. Even if I did twice or three times that many, it would be easy to do one at night before bed and one in the morning before work (that's 7 + 5 = 12) and then the rest I could work throughout the week. No big deal to fit 15 1x burns in.Originally Posted by ImaWeTodd
By this I guess you're talking about throwing away $25 in good DVD-Rs. Even if they're 1x.Originally Posted by ImaWeTodd -

You seem to be a very serious person. I apologize if my foolish comments have bothered you. They were all ment in jest. I tried to give fair warning to end of the helpful part of my post. I hope my 1x 2x shared experience was helpful to the original poster.
Congrats on the toddler! I myself have a 3 1/2 and a 1 1/2 year old.
You must be posting after your childs bedtime, and encroching upon your own. That's what I'm doing.

I took it all as good fun. I really like to mix it up and play the devil's advocate. I do this as a way to fully explore an issue and to, not only understand what the other person really believes, but what I really believe. This really irritates my wife, so I don't do this with her.Originally Posted by ImaWeTodd
I'm sure it was. To tell you the truth I can't wait to use up all of my 1x DVD-Rs and get some 4x.Originally Posted by ImaWeTodd
Thanks and congrats on your two. Boy & Girl? Two Boys? Or, two girls? We have a boy who is busy and very curious. We have taken over 15 hours of digital video tape and 2000 digital photos. I enjoy putting together home movie DVDs.Originally Posted by ImaWeTodd
Exactly ... but I find reading and / or posting on this forum or doing some video project is a mental release. I run in the mornings before everyone gets up as my physical release and to stay in shape.Originally Posted by ImaWeTodd
