I have the same drive as you and I average 7.5x dual layer and 11x single layer.
Here's some tricks:
1.make sure DMA is enabled on all drives including HDD.
2.connect drive as slave to HDD on primary channel.
3.make sure you have the latest firmware for drive http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=1&manufactor=17 -
THANKX alot, it was my DMA, for peeps who are thinkin about buying this drive BUY it NOW. I am getting speeds on single layer dvd's (DVD5) @ 15.8; (these are not copies, copies I'm only getting 8.9x). On dual layer (dvd9's) I am getting speeds @ 7.5x. I ripped LOTR (Lord of the Rings) witch is a little over 7 GB's in just 15 mins, before it took me 45 mins on my Pioneer 106D.
For NEWBIES here is how to change your DMA modes in WINDOWS 2000 (probably the same way in XP, just stuff is moved around a little bit)
Step:
1) Right Click ON my Computer
2) Click on Properties
3) Select the HARDWARE TAB
4) Click on the DEVICE MANAGER button
5) Click the PLUS next to IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS
(you should see: Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
Via Bus Master IDE Controller
6) You Do this step for both Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel:
7) Right Click and go to Properties
8) Select the ADVANCED SETTINGS tab
9) In the TRANSFER MODE: high-light DMA if Available
underneith it; it will tell you what current mode you are in, you DO NOT want PIO Mode!!!
10) DONE, Restart Windows (I think windows asks you to; cant remeber; still Shocked about 15x ripps
With that all said in DONE~GO FU@KING Ripp Some $hit
Oh yeah one last thing, I didnt do what moviegeek said about his step: 2
I have my 2 hard drives on one IDE ribbin and my other 2 drives (Lite-ON and Pioneer 106) on the other IDE ribbin. I hope this helps out who ever is reading this.
