do i need to erase dvd+rw media to burn anouther file

i am using memorex dvd+rw media to make backups of my dvd movie collection before i burn it to dvd+r media, anyways when i try to burn over a image on the rw media it gets a error, should i reformat the disk first? or should i erase the file? or what also im using instant copy trial for the burning but i got sonic my dvd pluss that came with my dell. thanks in advance.

A lot of program will auto format the disc for you, but if what you are using is not doing that, you'll have to erase the re-writable before burning something else on it.
