Here my situation. What I used to do was backup my DVD's to SVCD using Smartripper and DVD2SVCD. First I would rip just the movie to the HD and use DVD2SVCD to convert it.
So now I picked up a DVD-+RW, but I still have a few backed up DVD's sitting on the HD. Here is an example of what is in one of the folders:
vts_08.d2v
vts_08.idx
vts_08lst
vts_08_0.ifo
vts_08_1.vob
vts_08_2.vob
vts_08_3.vob
vts_08_4.vob
vts_08_5.vob
vts_08_INFO.txt
I tried just burning all those file into VIDEO_TS folder onto a DVD, but that didn't work. Is there any way or program that I can convert it to a working format, or anything that I can do?![]()

Yes, it is possible to reconstruct a working dvd from the files you have. Actually, I did it many times before.
First of all, you can get rid of:
- vts_08.d2v
- vts_08.idx
- vts_08lst
- vts_08_INFO.txt
You don't need them..
For you to get this to work you need the following 2 programs and a bit of free HD space. But first get your hands on these 2 programs:
- IfoEdit
- VobEdit
Here's the procedure to do this after you've installed the 2 programs:
- Create a new directory somewhere and call it "demuxed" or something.
- Create another new directory and call it something like "newdvd".
- Open IfoEdit and click on "Open" in the lower left.
- Browse and find the file called "vts_08_0.ifo"
- Expand the tree by clicking the + infront of "vts_08_0.ifo" in the upper part of IfoEdit.
- Find "VTS_PGCITI" (I believe it's the 3th from above) and expand that one too.
- Highlight "VTS_PGC_1", click on "Tools" and select "Save Celltimes to file".
- Save the "CellTimes.txt" file in the "demuxed" directory.
- Close IfoEdit for now.
- Open VobEdit.
- Click on "Open" in the lower left.
- Browse to the dir where you have your DVD files and open "vts_08_1.vob".
- Click on "Demux" in the lower left.
- Turn on "Demux all Video streams", "Demux all Audio streams" and "Demux all Subp streams".
- Leave "Split on new Vob-ID" off or turn it off when it's on.
- Click "OK".
- Browse to your "demuxed" directory and click save.
- When it's done, close VobEdit.
- Open up IfoEdit again.
- Click on "DVD Author" in the menu and select "Author new DVD".
- Click on the button on the right of the video field.
- Browse to your "demuxed" directory and open the .m2v file.
- Click on the button on the right of the audio field.
- Browse to your "demuxed" directory and open an audio file. Repeat this step untill you have included all the audio streams which are present.
- Click on the button on the right of the "Subpicture" field.
- Browse to your "demuxed" directory again and open an sup file. Repeat this step untill you have included all the sup files which are present.
- Click on the button on the right of the "Position" field.
- Browse to your demuxed directory and open the "CellTimes.txt".
- Click on the button on the right of the "Destination" field and browse to your newly created "newdvd" directory.
- Hit OK.
Now, when IfoEdit completes you will have a new freshly authored DVD in your "newdvd" directory which you can burn.
G'luck!

I did your suggestions/guide step-by-step, and it worked... upto the last step. When running the IFOedit for the second time (authoring the DVD) I get 3 errors (one after another) when I reach 96%...
1. INTERNAL ERROR - Additional free spce required but no free space
in buffer.
2. INTERNAL ERROR - Input buffer stream too small
Please inform Derrow
3. Runtime error - Program C:\DVDprograms\IFOedit\IfoEdit.exe
Abnormal program termination
And then Back-to-desktop...
Is this a known/fixable problem?

You dont need VobEdit and you dont need to re-author with IfoEdit at all. Just do this with IfoEdit:
1.) Start IfoEdit and open the biggest Ifo-file (vts_08_0.ifo) from the hard drive. Check what VOB ID'S the movie part requires(picture below).
After that hit "VOB Extras" and select just like in the picture below and select destination folder and hit "OK".
Check the right audio-track/tracks and subtitles(picture below) and hit "Strip it"
Select VOB ID's that movie needs and hit again "Strip it".
2.) Next open VIDEO_TS.IFO(new) IfoEdit just made and hit "Region free". Now the movie is region free)
3.) Open VTS_01.IFO(new) that IfoEdit just made and hit "Get VTS sectors". Hit "OK" for everything. After that you can just burn those files(Prassi PrimoDVD, NERO etc.) -
Alright, i already found one possible problem, looking at your screenshots, it has an option for "Create new VIDEO_TS.IFO & VTS_01_0.IFO" whereas mine only has "Create new IFO files (movie only)". After checking that option, after its done the first step it says something along the lines of "cannot locate VIDEO_TS.IFO" suggesting it doesn't even create it.
After looking for a few seconds, I noticed my IFOedit version is only 0.94, where 0.95 is supposed to be the newest. But everytime i try to d/l 0.95 from various places, it still opens up as 0.94 -

First delete all files except your VOB files. The IFO, BUP, d2v, txt, all of them, just keep your VOB files.
Next,
You need to rename your files.
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
and so on.
Then run them through IFOedit. "Get VTS sectors" and "Region Free" then save the new IFO's.
and your movie will play fine. Open WinDVD 4 and play the DVD from the folder to check it, but if you renamed the VOBs in the proper order it will play fine.
