  1. Hi,

I took delivery of my new drive 6 weeks ago and have successfully burned DVD+Rs (Datasafe & Traxdata).

I tried a couple of nights ago to burn to DVD-R (same files as above) and got the following errors:

    Power Calibration Failure

    - when attempting to use the Orange Bulkpaq Gen 4 4x disks

Failed to record data to the disk Code: DVDR-DAO-ASPI-2A-04-03-0C-08

    - when attempting to use Verbatim 2x DVD-R and Datasafe 2x DVD-RW

Are these the sort if messages you would expect with disks the drive doesn't like, or (as I suspect) does my drive need to go back for repair.

I should point out that it reads DVD-R fine, although I have no idea what brand they are.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

This is my first post, so I hope its in the right place.

I just had to answer your post 'cause your nick is the same as my cat's name. :c)

I've had lots of test disks not work on my Sony burner. I don't remember any error messages other than "failed to complete" or no message at all, but did not play in standalones.

I can confirm that my -R Traxdatas have burned well with no coasters and a DataSafe -RW has seen at least 3 dozen test burns before placing on Traxdata.

There's lots I tried that did not work at all.

So, it could very well be a media problem. You'll probably find you need to stick with what works and if your +R Traxdata worked, chances are "-" would too.

    (I didn't realise Traxdata even made a + version. Now I know.)

Good luck. Let us know how you make out.
