  1. Hi, All,

Overview: I need to convert a portion of a video's audio stream from mono to stereo.

Disclaimer: I'm a real beginner at all of this stuff. I'll probably sound foolish.

I've captured video from my miniDV camera via Firewire to a type II AVI file using DVIO (thank goodness for SIMPLE tools!).

The beginning of the file has a mono audio stream and the end is in stereo. This happened because I switched from a mono gun mike to the camera's built-in stereo mike during filming (no start/stop).

I'm still using very simple authoring/transcoding/burning tools like NeroVision Express 2 (tried DMF, WinDVDCreator, EditStudio, etc.). When playing back the AVI in these tools, they "lose" the audio stream when it goes from mono to stereo, so the audio just drops out entirely. I'd really like to fix this!

Anybody have suggestions on how I can either use an encoder that's smart enough to find the audio when it "switches" channels, or investigate some editing tool that will "fill in" the stereo channels from the beginning mono audio?

Thanks in advance for any help.

One question: Do you ever wonder what happens to your double posts when a member selects "View Unanswered Posts?"

I don't know if you're trying to be snide, but I'll assume not. I did not set out to crosspost. If you had looked at my first post in the "Edit" forum, you would have seen my EDIT: header indicating that I had mistakenly posted that into the wrong forum. I explicitly indicated that readers should disregard the mispost and I apologized for the mistake. I have already contacted Baldrick of the Super Moderators in an attempt to have the post in the "Edit" forum removed. If the phpBB software allowed me to remove my own post, I would have (there were no replies).

What else would you like me to do? I realize that it takes "policing" to keep up DVDRHelp's great forum standards, but I feel I've made a good faith effort to follow the rules.

Gee. Thanks for the kind welcome. If this is the "normal" hazing that is typical for newbies in these forums... fine. Consider me hazed.

Do you have any ideas about my original question? I would appreciate anything you have to offer,

Oh alright, if you are going to play the guilt card. Use Gold Wave to edit and convert your audio to stereo. Then save it and use it as audio input and your original video as video input, in the program TMPGEnc. Hope this helps.

I wanted to say "Thanks!" That patched up my problem. I have other problems now (of course), but this has been a good learning experience. I'm getting close to pumping out my first DVD from a MiniDV recording. Sheesh!
