I am trying to convert a video I captured from my DV camera to MPEG2 to make a DVD. I captured both with Scenalyzer and Ulead Video Studio and edited with Virtual Dub. When I try to convert the edited AVI file from Virtual Dub to MPEG 2 in the latest version of TMPGEnc I keep getting read errors. Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance!

I just checked: 0 bad frames 0 good frames but unreadable
Any more ideas?-Transient -
I just realized that it's a write error, NOT a read error. The write error happens in a different place each time, but usually before 15% of the writing is finished...

Sounds like you are out of disk space, or getting close.
Hello. -
This occasionally happens after editing in a DV program (I have Ulead, and this has occurred -- also in Premiere).
Try converting your DV Type 1 file from DV Type 1 to DV Type 2 with the freeware Canopus DV file converter (available in the tools section of this website). That often fixes hinky files for me.
This sort of thing can happen if you shift soundtracks relative to audio and make am istake in the editing so that the sountrack is one frame too long or too shrot -- Ulead (and Premiere) willedxport the resulting DV file but MPEG encoding programs register a frame mismatch and freak out. -
Thanks for your input. The file is already DV Type 2 using the Adaptec DVCodec as I could not edit files made with the default codec in Virtual Dub. I can edit the files fine now, but I keep getting write errors with TMPGEnc and CCE. I was able to encode the file once and then I deleted it because I needed to edit the source file. Since then I have tried to encode both the original source file and the edited one to no avail.
If anyone can help me fix this problem, I will most certainly make it worth your while. I'm on a deadline to make a DVD and the enoding errors are a major roadblock. Thanks in advance.-Transient -
Just a thought, you may have to change the vfapi settings under environmental settings,by making the avi reader a higher priority.

I changed the file to DV Type 2 (Microsoft Codec) and got 40% through the file before getting an error. That's better, but not good enough.
Any suggestions for VFPI settings?
Frameserving?
Thank you for all of your help.-Transient -
There are a couple of AVI readers under VFAPI. Which one should I give a higher priority?

I have now tried the Adaptec, Canopus and Microsoft Codecs and I bumped up the priority on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader in the TMPGEnc VFAPI settings to 1 and I am still getting both read and write errors.
Next, I am going to try frameserving from VirtualDub. Wish me luck!
Once again, if anyone can help me solve this problem, I will definitely make it worth your while.
Thanks for your help!-Transient
