  1. hello. have an old concert movie in ASF format that i'm trying to make a DVD out of. I've converted the asf file to avi, using EasyX Video Converter. basically fine with those results. then when i convert the avi to an mpeg2 using MainConcept Encoder and set the output for 352x240 to make it compliant the result has a green bar at the bottom. it's quite a large bar too. is there anything i can do to not have this in the output?
only thing i could think of is to make the mpeg2 output 320x240 and the use the DVDPatcher trick to change the header to 352x240 create the VIDEO_TS output with my DVD package (DVDWS) and then re-patch the VOB files back to 320x240. that works when putting a SVCD 480x480 on a DVDR without having to re-encode the video file.
    thanks for any advice.

also the available codecs to choose from on my PC when making the avi are : Cinepak Codec by Radius, Microsoft Video 1, Logitech Video (I420), Logitech Video (YUY2), Logitech Video (IYUV), Logitech Video (YVU9), DivX Pro 5.0.2, Microsoft MPEG-4 VKI V1, Microsoft MPEG-4 VKI V2, Microsoft MPEG-4 VKI V3
anyone have any suggestions on which one I should use? I tried the Microsoft MPEG-4 VKI V1 only because that had some config settings i could change (no other reason). the logitech ones had nothing to change. or is there a better codec i should download and install?

seems that for me to do what i want and keep a/v in sync, i need to go ASF>AVI>MPEG2
thanks again for any help. marc

  2. do a google search for "320x240 low res". There is a guide (actually its on this site, but people complain that the search function isnt working) that will show you how to converrt your 320x240 avi file to vcd standard and reduce the amount of quality loss.
