  1. I am going to get a new system and I will be doing a little dvd editing. Mostly home movies of my kids and stuff, nothing serious. Does anyone know would it really benefit me to have a RAID system or can I get by with a conventions Harddrive set up? I will be purchasing a AMD with at least 512 memory. Thanks

  2. Raid will help, especially with the editing side, but not that much. Personally if would rather have a single large HD (7200RPM) for the money than a smaller overall raid system.

  3. Hard drives are so cheap now, get two.

I have an 80GB drive with an 8MB Cache that I capture to and a 120GB drive that all edited footage goes to until I burn it.

Believe me, the drives fill up fast and with prices at about $1 a Gig, it's worth it.

  4. For me, Raid is the only way to go. I also have a dedicated machine for al my DVD needs. With the relative cheap price of computer components today, it's silly for me not to have 2 machines. I build ever machine from scratch, so I do save a considerable amount over pre-packaged/off the shelf units.
