  1. Hey pals, i got this Avi File. Its actually, ripped from a DVD, converted to Avi. Virtualdub says the fps of the file is 29.970. I tried to convert it in TMPGEnc, but it takes atleast 18 hrs. Which is defenitely weird, cause the length of the video is only 6mins. Next thing is, the converted file, dosen't have sound in it, only video. And yeah, i converted it as VCD ( PAL ). I believe this has something to do with the fps, cause a typical VCD(PAL) file should have 25fps. Guyz, i tried to convert using the Nero's plug-in, it detected a problem too, wasn't successful in converting the file. So, guyz, how do i go abt converting avi files which were ripped from DVD, to VCD (pal) !? Cause guyz, most of the avi files that were ripped from dvd have really weird fps, like the one stated earlier.

*guyz, one more thing. I am just a newbie ! Pls Dun flame me !

  2. 1. Not convert to PAL. NTSC should work on your player and the video / audio will go out of sync without special attention.

    2. Check the avi for errors in Virtualdub

    3. Extract the audio to wav using VirtualDub (set audio to full process with no compression set) You can then feed this into TmpEnc seperately to the video.

I assume the avi plays ok on your PC

  3. Or you could frameserve from VD and save having to feed the audio in seperately in TMPGEnc.

It is easier to framserve because it does not save the rendered avi file, it just passes it on to TMPGEnc.

There are guides to this over on the left and it is just as easy as saving an AVI and converting it.

You said it was from a DVD, why do you want to save it in AVI and take up more space? You should just use DVD2AVI and transcode the MPEG2 from that, instead of encoding to AVI then to MPEG2 again

  4. But i am not sure if my vcd player supports NTSC ( i am from singapore ). I am sure it supports pal. And its not me who converted the ripped files to avi, the files were already in avi when i got them from the source.

  5. First thing you need to know is that an "AVI" file could actually be using one of a half-dozen or more different codecs, so the term "AVI" really needs more definition.

Second, 29.97 is standard NTSC framerate.

Third, NEVER convert with Nero, it sucks as an encoder.

Fourth, be aware that many p2p files are corrupted in a variety of ways, sometimes deliberately. I don't assume anything is wrong with your encoding process because of this possibility, and the fact that you did not mention whether you previewed the file in Vdub, and if it had audio when previewed.

Fifth, it would be possible to estimate if the encoding time mentioned is reasonable if I had some idea of your computer specs, filling in your profile would be helpful.

  6. K, pal. I guess i know wats the problem i am facing. All the while, i have been converting video files with NTSC fps to VCD pal files. So, i guess this could be why TMPGEnc takes so long to convert the NTSC avi file. Right now, i am trying to convert the NTSC files to VCD ntsc. Have yet to find out if the output file is successfull. Cause, i thought only certain vcd playes support the ntsc format.
