I have a downloaded MPEG1 file in the obligatory NTSC VCD resolution of 352x240. The only trouble is that the original source is a TV program in 4:3 aspect ratio and there are no black bands on either side. The picture is therefore slightly stretched horizontally.

How do I go about correcting this slight distortion for display via DVD player on conventional 4:3 TV so that I don't get the 'fat face' look of the characters?

  2. When you play it back it will be skewed to the correct 4:3 ratio. It's not like AVI where every pixel gets drawn out to full resolution.
My AVI -> Any Format Guide is available here.
My Frame Resize Calculator (enhanced for Virtualdub) is available here

Oh okay. Obviously I still have some way to go before I get my head around these resolution issues properly.

    Thanks for the answer.
