  1. Just got the Apex AD-5131 for $59.44 at Wal-Mart, but it won't play
discs made on the E80! Did I just get a bad one or the Apex really
    won't play E80 discs?

Will other Apex models play the discs?

    DVD-R has been finalized.

I generally use FR mode, and whatever length I need (i.e. 1:35). As an experiment, I used SP mode, 2 hours, and switched from "hybrid VBR resolution" from "automatic" (the default) to "fixed". The result was the same...the disc just says "loading" in the AD-5131. In both cases I am recording directly to the DVD-R...not dubbing from HD.

I have tried Beall and OptoDisc (standard blue label).

The discs I have made will play just fine in the Apex AD-1500, Panasonic RV-31 and RV-32. They will not play in the new Apex AD-5131. They will not play in a friend's Apex TV/DVD (combo) unit.

Someone told me the Apex AD-1200 would not play his Panasonic E30 recorder discs. He returned the 1200 to Sears and got a Koss, and it will read his discs.

Is it just a quirk of SOME Apex players, that they will not read Panasonic recorder discs?

Or is there some other setting in the E80 I should try that will make the discs readable by the AD-5131?

The 5131 had no trouble with purchased/rented DVDs, CD-RW MP3 disc, regular CD, or photo CD. I will probably keep the unit, because it only cost $60 and is a 3-disc changer, but it would be GREAT if it could read the DVD-Rs from the Panasonic recorder.

I am a new E80 owner, and still experimenting and getting to know the unit...so I was hoping there was some other setting or way of recording that would make the discs I make compabable with the AD-5131.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Panasonic disks recorded from a standalone have compatibility issues. It is the way the disks are burned.

I had a DMR-HS2 and an Apex 5131, and my disks would play, but I could not FF or RW. I was using ACCU disks from meritline.com.

If you wanted to play the DVD-R's in your Apex 5131 normally, you could re-author with a PC DVD Burner. This has solved problems I had with my Bose player.

I don't believe there is a setting on the E80 to make them play in your Apex.

    Good Luck,

No. It is the way how they are authored. Read this...
