    Im going from avi to dvd using ,

    TMPGEnc to extract the audio then main concept to combine audio and video in an mpeg file. Im using main concept as tmpgencs converted mpeg is very blocky.

    Im then using ulead movie factory to make the dvd from these files.

    is there anything at any point I can do to minimise the loss of audio or video?

    Hmm. what specs are you encoding to? at a sensible bitrate DVD looks very good. what type of codec is your AVI source? Divx? if so then you're doing something seriously wrong to make it look -worse-!
