  1. After transferring the VOBs to MPEG2s on my harddrive for DVD burning, I can't get any sound no matter what kind of player I use. Can anyone help me understand what I am doing wrong?

  2. Maybe if you explained what you are trying to do and what the problem is? Remember that the VOB files are MPEG2 files. They are multiplex files containing: video, audio and subtitle stream/s.

So the question because what are you doing and what are you trying to do?

You can not just play the VOB files with WMP or open then in TMPGEnc, you need a software DVD player (+ MPEG2 codec) to play them. If you are trying to back up your DVDs see the 'DVD Rip' guides to the left. You you want to rip the DVDs to HD so you can play them latter I would either:

    1) Rip the full DVD with DVD Decrypter, "File | Mode - ISO read", then mount the ISO image with w/ Daemon tools .

    2) Rip the the Full the DVD in file mode, then play with a software DVD player (eg WinDVD)

    3) Rip on the movie in file mode, run IfoEdit and generate new VTS sectors then use a software play.

  3. Hi, Vejita:

Basically, I am trying to compile a bunch of scenes into one DVD. I am ripping the VOB files onto my harddrive using SmartRipper, then I am converting it to MPEG2s using TMPGEnc tools. The MPEG2s look beautiful, but when I try to burn them using MovieFactory 2 on a disc and play it on a standalone player (or even play the files on WinDVD or any other file player on my computer), I get no sound at all.

My players can read MP2 files as wells as AC3 files. But nothing is heard. Do I have to demux them or remux them or god knows what?

    It's driving me nuts!

    Thanks!

  4. This might be a dumb response, but did you actually extract the Audio tracks that you want to use from the VOB files with a program like DVD2AVI before doing the conversion in TMPGEnc?

  5. No, I extracted nothing. Just took the ripped VOB file and then converted it to MPEG2. When I tried to play the disc on PowerDVD, it indicated in the "Show Information" section that there was no audio "available" on the new MPEG2 files.

Frustrating...I know that I am doing something wrong...

  6. If you try to play the VOB File in PowerDVD, it works, right?

Read up on DVD2AVI. It will allow you to strip out the audio track of your choice from the VOB file (English, French, etc) in WAV format and create a project file for easy encoding in TMPGEnc. Check out some of the great guides on this site and they will give you direction on how to get everything working right.
