Just a suggestion (aren't they all?) to maybe have an "expiration date" on topics (6 months, 1 year). I've noticed that sometime topics get dredged up from a year or more ago, and it becomes irrelevant to continue discussion.
Some things I've seen happen are (no specific refernce):
-arguing with someone who has long since been banned or moved on![]()
-discussing something that was an impossibility/overpriced/not produced/etc., but now is mainstream ("DVD-Rs aren't $50 each. I can get like 100 for $25 at newegg!")
-general topics that have run their course, yet someone digs them up just to repeat what's been said over and over
On the other hand, some of the situations can be pretty funny.
I wish I could remember some of the good ones. I think someone was arguing with either defense or jeex this year. 8)

Well why bother editing the code when if it becomes a problem it can be reported in the feedback forum.
I think some old posts can be fun and still educational even if they might be out of date.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
A 12 month auto-lock sounds interesting, from the date of the last response in the post.
After all, mods can bounce them back up again if needed, as well as unlock them.
Probably need to exclude stickies.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I disagree. Anyone should be able to dig up an old thread if they wish to. Some important threads are more than a year old but still attract occasional posts.
The last thing we need here is more rules and red tape when the issues are insignificant. If you are concerned, simply report any problem to the mods. -

I agree with the agreemenent with the disagreement.
If it's a problem, we can lock it and issue warnings. Most of the time, though, it really isn't a problem and some golden threads can come back to life in this way.
It is an interesting suggestion, but I don't think we need to be that restrictive. -
Instead of locking them, why not just have the little icon beside the thread change to something else? That way an old thread is recognizable on sight.
I suggested something similar for topics where the op's problem is solved as well, so you don't have to read through 10+ posts just to see the point is moot.
