Forget about carpal tunnel syndrome or any of the other ailments that are endemic to computer users. These are nothing compared to exploding CDs which could throw shrapnel at users.

  3. I have actually seen this happen recently. Nothing came out of the drive, but the disk shattered with a loud bang and considerable force. This was an old disk in a 52x drive.

  4. Damn! I had that happen! One of my kids game CD's exploded and ruined a brand new sony CD-ROM! I was pissed!

  5. man...the end of that first link article says that you should put your computer on the floor, not on the desk..because on the desk the cdrom is usually at about eye level and can cause serious injury.

Shit...could you imagine having several pieces of a disk fly out and go into both eyes. You end up going permanently blind and when people ask you how you got blind, you have to say..."oh, I was playing/ripping a cd. " LOL...that's messed up. My computer is on my desk which is exactly where it will stay. I guess everything can injury you these days. Oh well...can't sweat any of that.

MY computer is tall, and I like to sit low. I think I should also be as worried about jagged cd pieces flying at my crotch! Oh wait I have a front door on my case, no worries.

ahh..but when you get side-tracked and forget to put that front case door up and that cd flies into your crotch like Bruce Lee throwin' a Chinese Star.....YYYYOOOOOUUUUCCCCHHHHH!!!

  8. Hum... At that speed Ink weight is a factor? Maybe a good reason to put a label on the disk. A kevlar filiment bases one with super glue.

Saw somewhere some group did a spin test. A very fast spin test that ripped dents into a heavy duty aluminum ring and embeded part into the celing tiles. It was cool!
