  1. please could somebody help me.
i have a .avi file that is 23.976 fps i am trying to convert to dvd with tmpgenc.
i have converted numerous files using tmpgenc but always 25 or 29.97 fps.
every time i try to convert the final file has lip synch about 40 minutes in.
i have checked for bad frames and i have separated the audio as explained here using virtualdub and virtualdubmp3freeze.
i never have any problems with 25 & 29.97 fps only with 23.976 fps and this happens on every file i use.
any help here would be very much apreciated.

Well for starters, what exactly goes wrong w/ tmpgenc? Is the problem only with the final file? Does the original have sync problems?

  3. When you load the avi into virtual dub do you get a message about VBR audio?

two possibilities here.... I know full well about this topic because I always convert 23.976 files to dvd..... Ok 1st possibility you need to use 3:2 pulldown So in MPEG setting in the Video Tab Encode mode should be 3:2 pulldown when playback selected And framerate should read 23.976fps(internally 29.97 fps) Advanced tab make sure no filters are checked....

Next and most common problem even though you ran the file through VirtualDub Mp3 freeze and no bad frams were found sometimes there is a bad frame that throws off the video and is decodeable so VD will not catch it but the audio will fall out of sync. You have to manually find the point where the audio is off and then delete about 10 frames before and 10 frames after the glitch. This is a pain in the neck I know I had to do it several times. Your problem seems easy cause you know it happens around the 40 minute mark. So open the avi file in Windows media player and search where after the 40 min mark the audio went off make a note of the time. you'll most likely see a glitch in the video. Then load the avi in virtual dub mp3 and try to find the exact frame where the glitch occured
go back 10 or so frames and mark that as the starting spot the forward to the end of the glitch and 10 or so frames past that and mark it as the ending spot. Delete the frames and then resave the avi. Now try decoding the movie again......... Its complicated but it is a common problem
