  1. I am interested in making a DVD using a few selected scenes or chapters from other DVDs. (Primarily, I want to make a private home theater demo discs using clips of commercial DVDs I own.)

Can anyone tell me what is the best way to do this? How can I rip certain chapters from a DVD to the DVDR without having to rip the whole movie?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. Rip the movies to your computer and make mpg files out of them with TMPGEnc (using DVD2AVI to make a d2v file). Then use TMPGEnc to cut and join the video as you wish.

  3. I'll try that method. Thanks for the feedback.

Is there a loss of quality going that route, by the way?

I think that this discussion will help answer your question, without losing quality.

btw, other authoring software also imports VOBs (TMPGEnc DVD, I think).

  5. There is a way to do this while preserving the original quality
    Here is how:
    a) use SmartRipper to rip one VOB per chapter, select chapters to want to rip
    b) import these VOB files in IFOEdit to author a DVD (use the Guide from this site about IFOEdit)

  6. Thanks again for all the help.

However, when I convert a VOB file to MPEG, I lose the audio. Should I have gone through a demuxing or muxing process?

  7. I tried a couple of programs but IMO DVD author is by far the easiest to use for this sort of work. it imports vob files, just limited in menus unfortunately but I had some luck with importing other menu templates from other programs, ie Pinnacle or MF2 even a motion menu with sound.
