I am using TMPGenc to convert from divx to DVD.
I use the standard DVD PAL wizard.
Anyway I have noticed a few issues/questions for making a better DVD.
1) The video type defaults to non-interlace, shouldn't it be interlace ?
2) DC component precision defaults to 9, shouldn't it be better to 10 ?
3) encode mode defaults to non-interlace, shouldn't it better to set interlace ?
4) aspect ratio defaults to 1:1 (VGA), but if I Want to make a PAL DVD shouldn't I put 4:3 ?
5) About the video arrange method if I Set it to full screen keep
aspect ratio, I noticed when I view the DVD on my Panasonic standalone player on TV, the movie margin right and left are slightly cut, how can I avoid this ?
thanks a lot

3)No, see question 1
4)If it is divx 1:1 vga is what should be selected.
5)This is overscan and all tv's do this to a certain extent. Movies are made with this in mind so you should not be missing anything too important. -

1. The guide is leaning toward interlace encode mode. It says "DVD video should generally be interlaced even if the source footage is not". It does give an exception of 24-fps flagged with 3:2 pulldown for NTSC which I don't understand, so is that where I'm missing the non-interlace point?
2. and 3. I think I understand
4. I admitt, I would love to have someone explain this part a little better, but the guide does talk about picking either 4:3 or 16:9 more extensively. Again, I don't understand it, but VGA is only mentioned in one sentence.
5. Ok
I'd really appreciate your additional thoughts. Thanks for helping me learn. I have divx and wanting to change to NTSC. -
I think Craig Tucker explained us very well what to do.
if you are going to convert DivX to DVD then non-interlace is the correct one and also VGA 1:1
if you are going to make a DVD out of yor own captured video then you can use interlace mode and 4:3 625 lines if u are encoding PALoic
