  1. I backed up Shaolin Soccer, except now the subtitles do not come on when played on my standalone player. But they are there when I play the disc in my computer. Does anyone have any explanation for this or solution to make the subtitles show up on the player?

  2. need more info:

    which proggies you use?

you backed up to DVD compliant MPEG-2, right????

    -------

you kept the menus and extras, right? if u did, you could see if there's a subtitle sub menu that allows you to manually turn on subtitles.

also, you can use the "subtitle button" on your remote to switch between subtitles

  3. I used DVDshrink. I kept everything.
I can use my remote to switch subtitles but nothing comes out. And when I play it on the computer, I can switch to all the subtitles and they all show up...no problem. First DVD backup for this to happen so far.

  5. This movie has a feature similar to Matrix's "follow the white rabbit". I noticed the icon that pops up when its a special feature moment, doesn't appear on my back-ups also. But if you press enter/play, it will go into its behind-the-scenes footage. I figure the subtitles have something to do with this problem also.
One more thing, I used DVDShrink and selected the maximum level of 10 to shrink it. Is that the possible problem?

  6. Daredevil has the icon feature too. Those icons, I believe, are close captions. You need to keep all subtitles besides the ones that are obvious that you don't want to not keep. In DVD Shrink, the subpictures in question on Daredevil had "Not Specified" so I kept those. If I didn't then no icons. Yes, even without the icon displaying, you can still press enter to access the special features as long as you know which moment you need to press in the movie.

  7. OK I've tried my backup on several DVD players and the subtitles still will not show up. So far only on DVD-Rom players. All titles were selected in the back-up process. Whos gonna be the first to explain, figure out about this phenomenon?

  8. This is exactly what's happening to me with a Japanese movie. I used DVD Shrink 2.3 to compress the movie and the subtitles won't play in any stand-alone players, but they will play in all DVD-ROM drives.

I wish someone had some insight into this, I'd really like to be able to watch this disc on my bigscreen TV instead of my puny monitor.
