I'm looking for an easy to use and inexpensive app to edit commercials out of a DV avi type 1 or 2. I can't afford Premiere or Vegas. I went out and bought Ulead VideoStudio and it keeps crashing on me. You guys have recomended some great software in the past....thanks in advance!

    Please Help!

I use the mpeg editor available on hauppauge.com, but, I have a WinTv PVR. I am not sure if it will work for your set up. Let us know.

  5. Can't you just cut out sections with whatever your using now?
I geuss not or you wouldn't be asking
Unless I misunderstood what you mean.

    I'm capturing as MP2 files.
I was using the Tmpenc DVD Auther 30 day trialware before I left a few months ago to travel. I could easily click for start frame, click for end frame, and click delete selection type button. Removed anything I choose to not include that had been captured.
Like I put some cartoons on a disk for the kid, I added 5 of the same series to one disk. Did not need credits and opening scenes for all 5 so I left the opening for the first one and the credits for the last one and cut all the rest.

Also cuts out the center of a movie or anything else I want to cut out. Like one movie I did for some kids, good movie but nudity in the movie the parents didn't want the kids to have. So I captured their tape, cut the nudity, burned em an edited disk for the kids. Parents watch the tape, kids watch the disk. Before the kids weren't aloughed to watch the movie at all!
Comercails should be the same as the sex.

My demo expired while I been gone, and when I went to the site to buy it, I see they have a newer version allready and I think it is supposed to burn also. The one I had only saved to the drive then I had to use nero to burn it.

Using MP2 compliant files, this program was fast to make the DVD files. It has some menu features and chapterpoints and such you can do also.

I am still a newbie myself, and when I got the bugs out of my ATI software so I could capture MP2 compliant videos this was the fastest and best program I had used. I went from capture to author, did not do anything with editing or rendering in between though like tmpenc plus, I skipped that stuff for now, but will try it latter.

I now plan to try the demo for the new version (I gues they have a new demo with burning) and if it still works I will be buying this one myself I am pretty sure. Long as they haven't messed it up like so many other companies do with improvments that trash the program!

If you haven't tried it, I'd recomend seeng if it meets your needs. The demo I had was fully working for 30 days, I geuss it still is, and it made abot a dozen or so very good dvd's for me.

  6. OH and also,

When I deleted material, it does not go on the DVD, BUT it is not actually cut from the source. So if you make a mistake and cut in error, you still have it in the source to start over, or maybe a back feature or undo, not sure about those, never tried to get anything back I had cut.

I have used Mainconcept's EVE. Its targeted for DV editing saving wither to DV or MPEG-2 output. You can try it out. It's simple, fast and didn't crash at all with AVI (DivX/HuffYUV), MPEG-2 or DV source files. Also has terrific transitions and effects.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

I've found that Ulead VideoStudio 7 with the latest patch...

    http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm

...runs very nicely on stable computer systems.

The program has a much harder time on unstable systems.

    My system specifications:

    -Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
    -AMD Athlon XP2000+ (1.67ghz)
    -1gb PC2100 DDR memory
    -Asus A7N266 mainboard (NVIDIA chipset)

    Works great.

  9. I use VirtualDub, its free, and works great. It does not work with DV Type-1, but I just transfer my DV video from my cam with DVIO in Type-2.
