  1. Got this avi file ran thru Gspot it shows 23.976fps, 608x256, 134kb/s VBR @48000Hz. What format is this?

Tmpgenc won't process it with an error message:"write error occured at address 77FCB5BF of module 'ntdll.dll' with 000000." I think the problem is the video not the audio because it won't process just the video alone.

Vdub will say "an improper VBR audio encoding .... will rewrite to standard CBR.." and it does save wav file, but when brought into Tmpgenc as video and audio system will give me that same message.

DVD2AVI simply will not process the avi file at all and will shut down!

Any idea? (BTW, the movie is Austin Power 3, and I'm using Windows 2000 Pro w/ AMD XP2500)

  2. What video and audio codec are in the .avi ? You could demultiplex it then process the audio and video seperately and then remultiplex them after they are done to isolate the problem.....

  3. What do you use to demultiplex an avi file?

  4. Vdub will, just save .avi with the 'no audio' selected and 'direct stream copy' selected under video. then 'save wav' under audio but make sure 'direct stream copy' is selected under audio...then when the .wav file is done, rename it to whatever extension it should be .mp3, .ogg, etc....

that is kinda why I was asking what audio and video codecs did gspot say were in the avi ?

you can always try vdub mod (here on the this site under tools I believe) as it handls vbr audio.

also, did you try highering the VFAPI directshow settings in TMPGenc ?

  5. GSpot shows video as xvid, audio as "055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3".

VFAPI plug-in direct show is set at -1, AVI VFW is at -2. What settings should I set those at?

  6. Here is a link for TMGEnc issues https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems says to set the directshow to 1 or 2.

and, just to ask again, you said you tried saving the mp3 audio to wav in vdub, selecting 'full processing' under audio. and did you make sure that the wav is in the right format for what you are trying to convert to ? ie 48khz stereo for dvd and 44.1 stereo for s/vcd......

have you ever had problems converting an xvid file before ? is this the first xvid file ?

  7. Thanks so much for your help. Once I raise the setting to 2 it's working now. Yes, this is my first time I've encountered problem with avi conversion. I think it's just because it was encoded with xvid. But I'll post it again if I continue to have problems.

    Thanks again.
