Questions about bitsetting / Book type

Does the bitsetting to force the burn to make DVD-Rom only apply for DVD+R/RW?
After I burned a DVD, is there a way to check the Book type of the burned DVD, whether it is DVD-Rom compliant or not?

My burner is DRU-510A and player is panny RP56. Memorex and Fuji DVD+R won't play on the panny.
I use the Instant CD/DVD method to burn my DVDs

Bitsetting wont work on your Sony dual burner

Most of the Panasonic players don't play DVD+R without compatibility bitsetting.
Switch to DVD-R

The weird thing is that the same panasonic plays 2.4x DVD+RW (which should be less compatible) with no problem. I guess I have to stick with DVD-R.
